| More Than 40 Laundries Sign Up For Accrediatation By Hlac EVANSTON, IL, —Just nine months since opening for business, more than 40 healthcare laundries have signed up for accreditation from the Healthcare Laundry Accreditation Council (HLAC). To date, 11 laundries have received accreditation and another 30 are in the process of preparing for the inspection that will qualify them for accreditation. HLAC’s mission is to publish high standards for laundering healthcare textiles, and to provide an inspection and accreditation process that recognizes those laundries that meet these high standards. The decision to become accredited is completely voluntary. The primary benefit of accreditation is that an independent third party has inspected your facility and found that it meets or exceeds the highest standards for processing healthcare textiles. A laundry cannot inspect and accredit itself and its customers generally do not have the time or expertise to conduct inspections.

“We chose accreditation for two reasons,” says President and CEO Susan Witcher, Faultless Healthcare Linen, Kansas City. “We believe accreditation provides a market advantage and, most important, accreditation confirms that we are doing things the right way. “At Faultless, we are always looking for ways to improve what we’re doing,” says Witcher. “There were several things included in the accreditation process that have helped make us a better company. Because the process was so encompassing, everyone became involved in preparing for the inspection.
