The Fun Side of Clean '01

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The hum of machines isn’t all that will be greeting Clean attendees on opening day, July 19, 2001 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Music, mimes and magicians will be on hand to entertain the crowds throughout the show’s four days.

“Sponsors and show management wanted to add some new excitement to the Clean Show,” said John Riddle, president of Riddle & Associates, show manager. “We think what we have planned will be a lot of fun for our attendees.”

Don’t worry if you’ve never been to New Orleans, greeters will be on hand at the New Orleans International Airport on Wednesday and Thursday, July 18 and 19th, to welcome and assist Clean Show attendees, answer questions and give directions.

At the show you’ll find a shift from the traditional opening ceremonies and keynote speaker. Attendees will be entertained in the lobby and registration areas while awaiting the special “clothesline” cutting that opens the exhibit floor while celebrity look-alikes mingle with attendees to provide photo opportunities.

If you’re one of those people who can’t stand to be away from your email, at the new Cyber Cafe attendees can log on for mail and also check out exhibitors’ sites on the Web. And stick around for awhile because Cafe Clean promises afternoon entertainment for those looking to rest their weary feet. New Orleans musical groups, cooking demonstrations of traditional New Orleans fare, and Cajun dance lessons are on the schedule. Adding to the New Orleans flavor, the Cafe will have a traditional jazz brunch on Sunday.

Cafe Clean’s Friday schedule features Chef Kevin Belton cooking Louisiana Jambalaya. The entertaining Chef Belton is an instructor at the New Orleans School of Cooking. He co-starred in the BBC cooking series “Big Kevin, Little Kevin,” he has appeared on national radio and television including “Live with Regis & Kathy Lee,” and was featured in the late Charles Kuralt’s book, “America.”

On Saturday, Horst Pfeifer, executive chef and co-owner of the popular French Quarter restaurant Bella Luna, will demonstrate Creole Crab Cakes with Chipotle Remoulade. German-born Chef Pfeifer is one of the youngest ever to receive a European master chef’s certificate, which he did with top honors at the age of 25. Among his honors, he was featured on the television cooking series “Great Chefs” and in the James Beard House “Rising Star Series.” Also on Saturday’s schedule is a demonstration of Cajun dancing and dance lessons for the adventurous.

This year it will be easier than ever to have some fun at Clean ‘01.
