Ergonomics In The Laundry / Linen Industry
On March 13, 2003 OSHA released the first in a series of industry-specific guidelines for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) in the workplace. These guidelines focus on practical recommendations for nursing homes. Nursing homes were a high priority for OSHA given that the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports indicated nursing and personal care facilities ranked number one with the highest incidence rate of injury and illness from overexertion resulting in days away from work in 1994 (most recent data) for private sector industries.
Cleaning Up - Down on the Farm
Got milk? Most of us do. But chances are you haven’t given much thought to the laundering process on dairy farms. That process, however, can affect milk quality, and in turn, affect the end users and dairy suppliers.
Milk quality is evaluated based on the number of somatic cells, or white blood cells, present in milk, according to Dr. Mike Maroney, University of Wisconsin-Extension milk quality veterinarian.

State and Federal laws do not require that personnel who handle contaminated textiles be certified in order to achieve accreditation. However, it has been NAILM’s opinion for the past 24 years that in order for personnel to work in either laundry or environmental services that proper training is important to reduce excessive cost and injuries.
