ARTRA’s Green Summit Hosts Catherine Zimmer, PHD and Lara Sutherland
ARTA will hold its Green Summit in Quebec City, July 22-23, at Le Chateau Frontenac. On the first day of the summit, ARTA will host Catherine Zimmer, PhD, from the University of Minnesota who will provide an overview of the Life Cycle Assessment research her team recently completed. The keynote speaker for the second day of the conference is Lara Sutherland from Practice GreenHealth who will provide an update on the EPA’s Memorandum of Understanding and how her organization is working to help hospitals reduce waste and operate in a sustainable manner. She will also offer advice on how laundries can help hospitals increase their use of reusable textiles. In addition, the summit will feature several sessions on hospitality issues, as well as a roundtable with operators sharing their Green strategies for growth. Cintas Settles Class Action Suit |
|
Cintas recently settled a class action suit for $6.5 million that alleged it violated the Living Wage Ordinance in the City of Los Angeles. Over 500 Cintas workers, represented by Workers/United SEIU, a union that represents 70 percent of California’s laundry workers, are slated to receive overdue back wages. In the settlement $3.3 million will be going towards worker back wages and interest and an additional $250,000 will be paid as penalties. Additionally, Cintas will pay over $2.6 million in legal fees for the class action suit which was initially filed in 2004. |

EAST BERLIN — Last Thursday, the only warship in the U.S. Navy with the motto “Never Forget” emblazoned on her bridge deck, sailed from New York City. It was headed for Atlantic Fleet headquarters in Norfolk, Va. and full-time duty with the U.S. Navy fleet. |
